Meet Bethannie,
I am a British artist whose work explores the emotional resonance of nostalgia through evocative landscapes and dreamlike scenes. My paintings seek to capture the elusive quality of memory, shifting fluidly between the real and abstract, through the use of texture, movement, and light to evoke a sense of recollection.
The ocean is a primary influence in my practice — its movement, sounds, and atmosphere serve as metaphors for memory. I explore its connection to emotion by capturing fleeting impressions that reflect the transient nature of recollection.
Working primarily with heavy body acrylics, I blend elements of contemporary art and realism. My use of a subdued colour palette, punctuated with bursts of vibrancy and expressive, painterly brushstrokes, results in ethereal, serene environments that invite the viewer to pause, reflect, and reconnect with their own memories.
While my current focus is on landscapes and dreamscapes, I avoid confining myself to a single genre or method. I am continually inspired by other artists and driven to evolve my style and technique.
